OFFICE ROMANCE REVIEW: Jennifer Lopez Turns a Predictable Love Story Into a Laugh-Out-Loud Delight – Netflix

rainsmedia59Reviews5 hours ago40 Views

Honestly, if someone asked me why it took so long for me to sit on my couch, pull out my trusty Google Pixel 6, and finally watch Office Romance, I would probably say it was because the movie poster reminded me of a Jennifer Lopez film I had seen before—one that seemed to follow a similar formula and ending.

Now that I have finally watched it, I have a lot to say about the movie. However, I would like to start by acknowledging that it delivers exactly what it promises: comedy.

I honestly cannot remember the last time a movie had me giggling, laughing, screaming, and talking back to my phone as if the characters could hear me. Office Romance had me doing all of that.

Jennifer Lopez, who plays Jackie, was excellent in her role, although I expected nothing less. She is a veteran when it comes to romantic comedies and knows exactly how to make a character both lovable and relatable. Jackie is the type of boss many of us in the corporate world have encountered at some point in our careers—someone who is kind-hearted and capable but hides behind a tough exterior to command respect or mask personal insecurities.

Daniel Blanchflower, played by Brett Goldstein, also did a commendable job. That said, I highly doubt anyone could make such a disastrous first impression on a female boss—especially one with a history of workplace relationship scandals—and still keep their job.

The handshake scene was absolutely hilarious. Watching Daniel struggle to maintain his composure during such an awkward moment had me laughing uncontrollably. It was one of the film’s funniest sequences and perfectly set the tone for the chaos that followed.

From a realistic standpoint, I actually agree with one of the movie’s underlying themes: workplace romances between consenting adults should not automatically be frowned upon, provided they remain professional and do not affect job performance.

After all, many people spend the majority of their waking hours at work. It is only natural that genuine connections and relationships may develop. As a friend once told me, “If you think you could never have an office romance, you probably just haven’t met the right person at work yet.”

That said, Office Romance is ultimately a familiar love story. It is entertaining and enjoyable, but it does not necessarily reinvent the romantic comedy genre or offer anything particularly groundbreaking.

No disrespect to Brett Goldstein, who undoubtedly possesses the acting talent required for the role, but he would not have been my first choice for a leading man in a romantic comedy. While he may not fit the traditional rom-com leading-man image, he certainly has enough charm and talent to make the character work.

Overall, Office Romance is another reminder of why Jennifer Lopez remains one of the most reliable faces in romantic comedy. The film celebrates the idea that love can emerge in the most unexpected places and that genuine connections can overcome personal fears and professional boundaries.

With beautiful locations, a charming soundtrack, strong comedic moments, and a feel-good storyline, Office Romance makes for an enjoyable weekend watch or a relaxing movie night.
